Peaks and troughs: variations in the availability of therapeutic drug monitoring in critical care units across London

چکیده
Introduction Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) is an evolving tool used to optimise the administration of antimicrobial agents; which are well documented to have toxic side effects [1]. In combination with increasing antimicrobial resistance and emphasis on cost-efficiency, provision of the optimal dose of antimicrobial therapy is a very attractive prospect. Pharmacokinetic (PK) indices can be used to classify the efficacy of an antimicrobial agent. Critical illness may alter a patients PK behaviour [2] and therefore these patients may require alternative dosing regimens for optimal management [3].

Determining Frequency of Prescription, Administration and Transcription Errors in Internal Intensive Care Unit of Shahid Faghihi Hospital in Shiraz with Direct Observation Approach
Medication errors (MEs) are the most common error in ICUs. In fact, 78% of all serious errors in ICUs are due to MEs. Therefore, detecting MEs has vital significance. The goal of this study was to investigate the frequency, type and consequences of different types of errors including prescribing, transcribing and administration errors in an ICU of a large teaching hospital. Disguised direc...
متن کاملA Review on Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Immunosuppressant Drugs
Immunosuppressants require therapeutic drug monitoring because of their narrow therapeutic index and significant inter-individual variability in blood concentrations. This variability can be because of factors like drug-nutrient interactions, drug-disease interactions, renal-insufficiency, inflammation and infection, gender, age, polymorphism and liver mass. Drug monitoring is widely practiced ...

Background and Aim: One of the high-risk groups due to the prevalence of COVID-19 are patients with chronic heart disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the electronic health care and drug monitoring program to prevent COVID-19 and adherence to therapeutic regimen of patients with chronic heart disease (ischemic heart disease). Methods: This pilot study is a quasi-e...
متن کاملCorrecting India’s Chronic Shortage of Drug Inspectors to Ensure the Production and Distribution of Safe, High-Quality Medicines
Background Good drug regulation requires an effective system for monitoring and inspection of manufacturing and sales units. In India, despite widespread agreement on this principle, ongoing shortages of drug inspectors have been identified by national committees since 1975. The growth of India’s pharmaceutical industry and its large export market makes the problem more acute. Methods The foc...

Background: Underlying diseases and aggressive procedures, such as different types of surgery and care, for patients with critical conditions in intensive care units (ICU) may be associated with physiological disorders. Objectives: This study intended to determine the effect of therapeutic touch on physiological variables of patients undergoing mechanical ventilation in ICU. Methods: This...
